Anstey Mills Cottages

Anstey Mills Cottage

Here we are for the second time. It was a pleasure again. We had different friends with us and for them it was fantastic too! Hoping to write on this book again…..

8th December 2008 Marina & Sandro -, Rome Italy

Dear Doris, Boys and Bruce. What can we say? Wow!! What a wonderful cottage, what a warm welcome. The dog Ziggy has loved it here (so used to being on a constant lead when we go camping). He’s enjoyed playing with Bruce and just generally running around – teased by all the smells of the country. As for my girls – well, according to them, this is by far their favourite cottage we’ve stayed in over the past 6 years when holidaying with their Auntie and Uncle and Nanny & Grandpa (the latter who stayed in your other fantastic cottage). We’ve never been to a place before where we’ve not had to pack linen etc and here we walked straight into a home from home. We hope to return (well, I didn’t get the change to try out the whirlpool bath in the thatched cottage so surely that’s excuse enough??!!) Thank you so much.

1st November 2008 Hayley, Robyn and Jonna Beames, Laurel & Alan Cufley

A big thank you Doris for a wonderful holiday. The cottage is brill, tha cream tea was just lovely and the whole week has just been fab. Cannot wait to come back again next year. Once again thank.

3-6 March 2008 Sharon, Simon, Summer & Gang

Wonderful stay – Doris had even arranged warm rain in February! The children will miss Tiger, Todd & Bruce hugely - and their evening walks! Thank you so much – it was a real home from home. (Tigers climbing on me as I write this….!) P.s Snowdrop Valley is gorgeous.

11 – 14/2/2008 The Davis Family.

Dear Doris.

Tigger

There was a young cat named Tigger,

Who was every day growing bigger,

She got so fat,

She couldn’t fit on her mat,

And that was the end of Tigger.

Bruce

Balls love Bruce and Bruce likes balls,

Ones that are plain and make parrot calls,

Ones brightly coloured, every different shade,

He does not care how they are made!

We throw the ball and when he doesn’t let go

We say “give the ball back Brucey dear,”

But then the ball will just disappear!

A lovely few days Doris. Thank you for making us so welcome & the Stollen was lovely. We will be back soon. Keep warm & well!!  xx

Thank you Doris, Max & Leo. Great cottage set in fantastic countryside. I particularly liked the varied walks that can be constructed starting right outside the door. The walk up the river at Tarr Steps is also worth a visit - lovely woods.

Me, Emily, coming here from America and spending my 3rd summer here. IӶe only seen the City so seeing this part of England is wonderful and very lovely! Iӭ very sad to leave this place where we all got away from the noisy streets of Brighton and came here for peace and quiet and we got it! Thank you Doris Love all of us. P.s. Wonderful welcome.

A wonderful welcome, made to feel right at home. Both houses are lovely and well equipped for anything. Peaceful location but near to lots to do. Had a lovely time not even the rain could spoil it. Thanks from all of us to you Doris and Sons. You made our stay all the more special. Hope to see you again soon. xxxx

26/5 ֠2/7/2007  Campbell-Salmon & Bailey Family.

Back again! The 11th time thus far and twice this year! WeӲe old hands at the terrain but we are always kept busy as there is so much to see and do! The Mount Pleasant Inn at Nomansland is the best place for food ֠every time, the plates are empty! We finally found the correct route back ֠itӳ only taken us four trips to work it out! Honey has had a fantastic time. I think sheӳ missed a good run off the lead but everything else has compensated. Itӳ good to know that she felt so settled so quickly. IӤ even put money on Anstey Mills being Honeyӳ No.1 holiday destination! Thanks again Doris for making our stay enjoyable. Love to all.

15/5/2007  Mary, Lee, Theo, Lucy & Honey Monster

We have had a wonderful holiday and don't want to leave. We have been made to feel incredibly welcome. The cottages (we have stayed in both this holiday!) are very well equipped and spotlessly clean. You have thought of everything to enable a comfortable visit. We have visited Putsborough beach twice, following your advice and done many walks -all have been superb but Simonsbath was our favourite. Walking to Cowcastle and a beautiful view of Landacre Bridge - again your recommendation. Can't wait to return!!

What a wonderful welcome we received which continued throughout our stay! We have had a fantastic stay with wonderful weather and wonderful scenery. Unfortunately we did not get to do everything we wanted but gives us more reason to return! Perhaps we'll stay at your new cottage - although not all at once!

Marvellous! Hot sunny days - fantastic walks and a hot fire to welcome us in at night - fantastic! Recommendations.- Lynton & Lynmouth, eating at George Hotel, South Molton.

20/8/2005  Sarah & Liz Chan, Peter, Jan, Nick Hart, & Kirsty. Surrey

We've been here for 3 weeks enjoying this beautiful & mystical landscape and we had a really nice holiday here at your house. Thanx very much for your great hospitality. Will never forget our meals with all together 15 persons, our 'tractor Tour' with Tim to the little forest and this marvellous view we had up on Exmoor, about 20 wild Exmoor ponies standing there in the mist so peaceful and free - a perfect moment. We wish everybody to stay healthy and happy till we see each other again!

Well what can we say! It has been wonderful. The cottage is fantastic; it really does feel like home form home. Our children have loved being able to play with your children and build dams in the stream. This has been an excellent location to enjoy all areas of Devon. There is only one problem, we have run out of time and have to go home. Thanks to Doris & Tim for a lovely welcome & holiday. We hope we can come back soon.

Hi Max and Leo thanks for playing with us. My best part of the holiday was when we met Leo in the grass.

Dear Doris & Tim,

Thank you very much for our lovely holiday last week!! We had a lovely time ֠all the boys loved being there very much (it goes without saying the adults did too!!) I have told friends it was a really good family holiday ֠something that can be quite rare these days ֠with all the distractions modern life brings ֠and lack of freedom for most kids!! Thank you very much again for letting us invade your lovely cottage and being so welcoming and thoughtful (if only more people could be so considerate then the world would be a happier place!!!)

Thanks once again ֠I hope your holiday to Germany was just as enjoyable and we hope to return sometime in the future.

Anstey Mills Cottage.

So green, so quiet, such unspoilt beauty, so far from the grey, noisy streets of home. To wake with the gentle twittering of birds, while lambs play freely in the fields below and their mothers graze upon carpets of soft, green grass. To hear natures peaceful tunes, to smell its sweet aromas, awakening ones senses, refreshing ones faith in all thatӳ good around us so often hidden by power and greed. To have timeơnd space to thinkŠand ҢeҮ If only for a short while in this place of such tranquility. This place where we can dream.

Jo Gardiner

23rd April 2003

Used to think such peace and beauty only existed in storybooksƵntil now! Thank you Tim & Doris, for making us feel so welcome. You are very special people and so ҩn-tuneҠwith the needs of others in order to get the most out of their stay in your beautiful cottage. A perfect break! We hope to return soon. Xxxx.

10/4/2003 Tony & Doreen Hammond

Itӳ Lee and Maryӳ fifth time here and it wonӴ be the last - it caters for all our needs! The dogs and the baby Theo love it here and Mum, Lucy, has expressed a desire to return. So much to see and do - fishing on Scooby-Doo-Too at Watchet, long walks on Exmoor, sightseeing inland and coastal and at the end of a most enjoyable day, crashing out in front of a roaring fire with a hot toddy or a glass of wine - pure bliss! We all have some lovely memories of this trip - seeing the newborn lambs in the field and admiring the Exmoor ponies - shame to have to go home really! Thanks again to Tim & Doris.

4/3/2003 Mary Acerbis, Lee & Theo Milner and Lucy Oӂoyle. Charlie & Sable (The Hounds!) Essex & London.

We had a wonderful break with a warm fire and cream tea to welcome us here. The little girls had a great time running around with lots of toys to play with. The highlight for Jon (who comes originally from San Diego) was to see the hunt go past the doorstep - and the fox going in the other direction ݠan hour later! WouldnӴ recommend the Bridge Inn* at Dulverton if you were looking for a child friendly & warm welcome! Thanks for all your thoughtfulness.  (*Now in new hands! Doris, 2007)

The last year has been full of traumas and I booked this surprise short break for my husband and I. This cottage is a gem, a fantastic retreat where we just walked the dogs, talked, ate, drank and slept!! The cottage exceeded all expectations – the dogs loved Bruce. I think they may have outbarked him – apologies!!

Thank you again and the Thai restaurant in Dulverton was wonderful. We even had a demonstration on how to make the vegetables into all the shapes!!. We hope to be back.

Best wishes, Samantha, Ian, Bambas and Harlech – woof woof

Thanks for the wonderful friendly welcome, followed by the guided tour and then the scrummy cream tea. You made us feel we had always known you – not just met you. Bruce made Millie welcome, ready to share walks and toys.

It was so nice to be away from the busy city life and relax in such a quiet, comfortable location – great to be able to enjoy a nice bottle of wine in the evening an then a lie-in the next morning. The cottage is A1 – a credit to you and we will be returning later in the year – if you will have us again that is !!

John an Carole Billingham & Millie (Jack Russell), New Forest, Hampshire

Thank you for letting us stay in this beautiful cottage. It has been pure bliss just to stay and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings.

Many thanks. John, Karen and 'Oscar'  31st March 2008

This charming and unique cottage has been the perfect base from which to explore Exmoor and Somerset - our first 'proper' visit to either. We have felt very at  home here- reading, watching TV, staying ap late and NOT getting up early! But also managing a few nice walks despite it being  a very cold  and windy Easter weekend (the earliest cince 1913!). As we live in a modern house, it has been a real novelty to stay in a building with such character and history.

25 March 2008 Toni & Roger Ryman, Tregony, Cornwall

Thank you very much for a lovely stay. Cottage is very comfortable and peaceful.

16.03.08 Jane & Glenn, Brighton, East Sussex

CanӴ wait to come in summer with our bikes and try out some of the trails around Exmoor etc. Thank you.

25th Jan 08  Richard, Mel, Rhys & Jess.  Carterton, Oxfordshire

P.S. Hope we didnӴ leave too much mess! You may find a babyӳ bib or sock; we seem to leave them everywhere we go!

Hi Doris,

Where did the week go? Reluctantly we have to pack and leave this cosy cottage. The extra touches were much appreciated and helped to make our holiday perfect. We did miss you though but hoped you enjoyed your Prague visit.

Kind Regards and our very best wishes for your future.

A very relaxing time in a gorgeous cosy cottage. A perfect place to ԧet away from it allԮ No rain, but lots of fog. Lovely walking in wooded valleys, sometimes being watched by deer. The Thai Restaurant in Dulverton is superb, and staff helpful and friendly. We are looking forward to coming back.

Thank you for such a pleasant welcoming ...! We have had a wonderful time visiting many places throughout Devon. Wimbleball Lake (9 miles round though!), Dawlish, Teignmouth, Saunton, Croyde, Woolacombe, Westward Ho, to name but a few. We cannot wait to come back and see the places we missed this time.

Thank you once again.

Kind regards

Katie, Oli and bump!

Our 8th visit here and the 1st to the 'new' cottage. Once again it is difficult not to feel totally relaxed and extremely welcomed. Thanks again Doris. The Thatched Cottage stands as a fitting symbol and is something that you can all be proud of. Once more we would prefer not to have to leave.

Martin, Phoebe & Brett Laneurville.

We loved it here, and a fantastic cottage which is so tastefully done ֠very luxurious. Exmoor is such a dog friendly place we have been spoilt for choice, our favourite pub was in Brompton Regis.

You will see us again Doris.

We have had a very restful few days in the cottage, it was good to see the 'finished product' after watching 'work in progress' last year. We've had some new walks this time ֠and it is a change for us to walk by rivers rather than the sea. We're looking forward to next time.

We have had a wonderful time in the Thatched Cottage so much so that we are moving into the cottage next door, tomorrow, when it becomes vacant! Our Sons and a friend will also be joining us for a few nights because we feel that they should have the chance to enjoy the comfort and very warm welcome we have experienced this last week!

Thank you.
